The Field Between

Nobody seemed to know how long the door had been there. By late summer the sunflowers had grown around it so completely that it looked less abandoned than misplaced. She started going there in the afternoons, usually alone. She brought nothing with her except a handful of pearls she had been collecting for reasons she couldn't quite remember. Sometimes, she sat beside the door. Sometimes, she slept in the flowers.
